Dry skin may be something that affects many of us, but that doesn’t' mean it has to ruin our lives. Everyone loves having soft skin, whether it's men or woman. Dry skin not only makes our skin look older but it also becomes itchy and uncomfortable. You can learn good care for dry skin, whether you were born with dry skin or it came from your environment. Some symptoms of dry skin are peeling skin, tight skin, unable to retain moisture, sun-damaged or showing signs of premature aging.

Some of the basic care for dry skin involves our daily lives and how we live. Not many realize the importance of drinking a lot of water each day. Try to drink at least eight glasses of water each day. Avoid spending too much time in the sun, as this really contributes to dry and damaged skin. If you must spend time in the sun, use a good sunscreen. Eat a diet rich in fruits and vegetables. Showers are better for our skin than baths because our bodies are lying in the hot water for as long. On the subject of hot water—avoid it as much as possible, use warm water instead and lessen your showers to no longer than 5 to 10 minutes. I know the idea of a long shower sounds great, what it does to your skin is not good. It is not good care for dry skin. It's amazing how following these simple guidelines will make a huge difference in your skin.

In addition to "living smart", there is other care for dry skin. Many of these are products you can buy. If you do take a bath, put a couple teaspoons of olive oil (not virgin) into your bath water. This works wonderful for adding some moisture and oils to your skin. You'll love the way you feel after your bath, at which time, you'll gently pat yourself dry. After taking such good care in the tub, why rub the skin right off your body with a brisk toweling?

Before your body is completely dry, you'll want to rub moisturizer on your skin. When choosing a moisturizer, keep in mind that less is more when it comes to ingredients. The less ingredients you find in moisturizers, the better they'll be for your skin. Look for ingredients like glycerin, lanolin, alpha hydroxy acids and urea. Try to avoid using scented lotions and moisturizers as these often cause irritations and dry skin. Continue with this good care for dry skin on a regular basis. Dry skin can lead to worse skin irritations such as rashes, eczema and dermatitis. With good care for dry skin, you can have soft moist skin you can be proud of.
